PolyEdit Lite is a free application designed to cover the text processing needs of those who require much more functionality than that offered by other standard Windows free tools – such as Notepad - but who do not want to pay the price of commercial tools they will not use fully. This word processing tool includes all the features the average user needs to create, edit, and enhance any RTF, DOC, TXT, or ETF text file in a WYSIWYG environment.

Together with the saving formats listed, this application can open DOCX, DOCM and DOT Word files. Together with the usual text formatting features, with PolyEdit you can create tables, add images, objects, hyperlinks, spell-check your texts, execute external applications, etc. Besides, you can also enhance the security of your ETF documents by encrypting and compressing them with its 448-bit encryption technology.

Some advanced features require downloading some additional tools, like conversion to PDF. Conversion to HTML, to LF UNIX, and to CR Macintosh files is fully functional. You will also need to download and install MathType equation editor to insert complex mathematical expressions in your PolyEdit documents.

PolyEdit Lite is a free word processing tool that provides you with nearly all the functionality you would expect from well-known commercial applications. In fact, for a large number of users - those who very rarely or never use the most sophisticated features of tools of the likes of MS Word– PolyEdit Lite is a very interesting free alternative.

I've used PolyEdit Lite for years. I write fiction, so my needs are few but PolyEdit Lite fills them all completely. It is the only word processor I've needed. With the growing need to post to the web, I find the EXPORT TO HTML feature invaluable. With a sorry lack of RTF to HTML converters, Poly Edit Lite fills that void. Paste RTF and export to HTML.

The feature that led me to discover PolyEdit was the need to backup to a network drive. At the time, all the others put the backup file in the same folder that the original file was in, useless in the event of a hard drive crash. PolySoft thinks ahead. I like that in my software developers.

Best personal word processor available, period. May not have some of the arcane Office-like options (like mail merge and collaborative work), but that's stuff you don't need for personal work. What you do need is included. Powerful piece of software, fast and amazingly efficient: takes even less disk space that MS Wordpad, which it easily blows out of the water! The only thing that comes close is Jarte, but PolyEdit Lite is much better. Try it and see for yourself.

PolyEdit Lite is a great upgrade from WordPad. It has tabs, themes, spell-check and the ability to convert selected text to UPPERCASE or lowercase, which I find useful. It also has 5 underlining styles, including Words Only. Tip: To strike-through selected text, go to Format > Font, then click on Strikeout.
